My research focuses on player behaviour and experience in first person shooter games, as a form of mass market virtual environment. Specifically, I am interested in the relationship between narrative structures and semantic content, and psychological effects such as presence, memory and perception. My research also engages with theoretical models of presence, games and virtual reality in a wider context of cognition, philosophy of mind and consciousness.
