BSc (Hons) Music And Sound Technology
This course aims to provide a balance between traditional music training and the requirements of the modern professional workplace.
The programme provides a background in the key areas of music technology, music theory and performance and digital media. It will also introduce you to other relevant elements via a range of options. Within this broad scheme there is a strong popular music technology theme that aims to develop technological skills, which will enable you to produce musical artefacts for use in multimedia or digital media products.
Additionally, there is an emphasis on building problem solving skills that will enable you to work at the leading edge of these technologies.
MSc Creative And Computational Sound
This course, will be of interest to students with an undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in music/sound technology, digital arts or creative computing who wish to specialize in advanced digital sound programming techniques for use in a wide range of creative, commercial and industrial contexts.
The course will be of particular interest to applicants who wish to develop further their knowledge and skills in Max/MSP/Jitter, Pure Data and apply this in the creation of sound/media assets.
A substantial part of the course focuses on the theory and practice of application development for sound synthesis, processing and organization using the data flow programming environments described above.
The areas studied include units on advanced sound/media programming, sound synthesis, manipulation and organization. Students can specialize and apply knowledge gained from this to compose and/or create sound for other medias or develop audio applications and solutions for industries in the education, medical, health, and engineering markets. There is also a wide scope for the development of academic and scientific research.
A significant element of this masters course is a research project developed throughout the course.
To support this, there are core units on Electro-Acoustic sound composition, Project Management and Research including Sound for Multi-media production. These latter units prepare a student for employment in a wide range of industries.
