Women in Games 2010
The University of Bradford in cooperation with Bradford College will host Women In Games 2010 in March. Women In Games is in its 7th year and Bradford brings a strong technological and cultural background to this internationally recognised event.

Themes 1. Race for the future How a multiethnic and multicultural industry is changing the 'face' of those in the games industry. 2. Global Neighbours Now we are becoming a global village, how might this affect our perceptions of what constitutes 'entertainment'? 3. Can I borrow a fiver? How is the recession and tax break issues affecting the industry? And what does it mean for the future of the UK industry, now that outsourcing is more global than ever? 4. My small, international development team The Internet is becoming the network between companies and physical locale is no longer an issue. What does this mean for the future of game development in the UK and abroad? 5. 'Girls study video games?' How misconceptions and stereotypes could be affecting girls/ women joining video games courses at all levels. 6. Gender Blind A term used in the last few years is 'colour blind'- the idea of seeing a person not a colour. Consider how women are seen as their gender only, does gender need to be forgotten for a true integration? Wiimen: A WFTV Discussion about Women in the Gaming Industry Thursday 25th February, 7-9pm, Central London The Times recently published a poll naming the '10 Brits who changed video games forever'. All ten were men. Join WFTV for a panel discussion about why the gaming industry has been dominated by men, and what opportunities are available for women from a Film/TV/Theatre/New Media background to gain work in the gaming industry. About Women in Games Development, research, education, dissemination, communication Mission Statement Highlight academic and industrial perspectives on groundbreaking work in computer games research, games development and games education. Focus attention on issues of special interest to women in the games industry and through this seek to address the games industry's gender imbalance and develop a fuller understanding of games and game playing. Aims 1. Give a voice to women and men in the games industry and in games education with interests in supporting and encouraging the role of women in the games industry. 2. Support and disseminate research into games, games culture, games education, games industry, games technologies, and other game related areas, especially (but not exclusively) with reference to the experience of women playing, developing and responding to games and game culture. 3. Provide networking opportunities for women and men working in the games industry and researching game related areas. Objectives 1. Hold regular Women in Games conferences and events. 2. Support events and conferences that promote the Women in Games aims. 3. Provide information and relevant links on the Women in Games website. 4. Provide online opportunities (forum/blog) for Women in Games related discussions and dissemination of ideas. 5. Support individuals and projects that further the Women in Games aims.
